The most efficient way to diagnose adult swallowing difficulties is with a Videofluroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS) assessment, also known as Modified Barium Swallow (MBS). This best-practice assessment is safely performed under x-ray conditions at the Swallow Clinic, St Vincent’s Private Hospital at Kangaroo Point or Greenslopes Private Hospital (on request).

Conditions affecting your speech, language or swallowing can be caused by a number of issues. Speech problems can be due to an accident or medical condition. You may also have swallowing difficulties, or your communication may be affected by chronic cough or hoarse voice. There are also a range of language impairments that result from dementia, stroke and other conditions. These can all cause problems interacting with friends and family – impacting on your relationships, work, social life and general wellbeing.

A thorough assessment will help determine the main cause of the problem. A personalised speech pathology treatment plan will help you improve your speech clarity, volume, language skills and swallowing. Treatment is affordable, easy to access and will let you take charge of managing your progress.
